Hard metal /
Tungsten alloys
Hard metal - formerly also known as Widia ("hard as diamond") - is a material that is created in the sintering process. Very hard carbides, usually tungsten carbide in combination with cobalt, are bonded in a metallic matrix.
The result: an extremely durable and wear-resistant material that is used wherever high hardness and precision are required.
Where carbide scrap is produced:
Machining & toolmaking: Worn drills, milling cutters, turning tools or carbide inserts.
Automotive and mechanical engineering: Worn tools in series production, such as for turning, milling or punching.
Metalworking industry: Grinding sludge, swarf and rejects from carbide machining.
Aerospace and medical technology: Discarded precision tools and components with the highest durability requirements.
